Question: Is there any evidence that a continuous infusion of inotropes (dobutamine/dopamine) or a continuous infusion of furosemide skew blood chemistry results?

S.D. 6/4/19

The short answer is No. Drawing blood through a PICC, any central or peripheral line can be affected by infusing fluids or medications if the infusion is not stopped and waste blood taken. In the case of inotropes, stopping the infusion is not an option so dilution of the blood sample can occur skewing the results. If you check google scholar for blood draws from PICCs or central lines you will find a few articles on the subject.
