CVC Removal

The CVC Removal program reviews when and how to safely remove a central venous access device. Using best practices for the removal minimizes the risk associated with the catheter removal, allows for the early identification of potential complications and provides appropriate clinical intervention and/or emergency measures as needed. The goal of this program is to:

  • Review the criteria of when a central venous catheter (CVC) is to be removed in accordance with current guidelines, recommendations, standards and best practices
  • Provide a step-by-step procedure for the removal of a CVC
  • Discuss complications that may arise during the removal of a CVC and how to prevent or address these complications
